Dr. Blaze was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Anaheim. He received his Bachelor of Biological Sciences from California Lutheran University in 1978. He then attended the Southern California College of Optometry.
Following this, Dr. Blaze pursued his research and development interests at the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit, University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He extensively researched the effects of extended wear soft lenses on cornea swelling and the dehydration rates of various soft lens materials.
Soon after graduation, he joined Stephen Downs, OD, and the Coast Contact Lens Company. In 1982, as optometric clinical director, he worked on the FDA study for the approval of the Hydracon contact lens.
In 1987, Dr. Blaze purchased the clinical practice of Stephen Downs OD, founder of Coast Contact Lens Company, and focused his private practice on specialty contact lenses. He has continued to be involved in new products and patient studies with Allergan, Alcon, and Polymer Technologies. He has been published in several professional journals and continues to lecture at professional meetings.
In 1996, Dr. Blaze worked part-time with Summit Technologies, the first company to introduce an FDA-approved excimer laser for refractive eye surgery. He was involved with pre and post-operative care in the early phases of laser surgery development.
He has successfully managed laser surgery patients with the best laser centers and surgeons in Orange County since introducing the excimer laser.
Dr. Blaze enjoys surfing and softball and has recently picked up golfing. He and his wife Rhonda also like to travel and backpack together!
Carlin Tran, OD, Optometrist
Dr. Carlin Tran is a graduate of Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry in Pomona, California. She grew up in Orange County and received her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. She later pursued her Regulatory Affairs & Compliance for Pharmaceuticals certificate, also at the UCI campus.
Dr. Tran has completed externships in different modes of practice, including Neuro—Optometry, Vision Therapy, Indian Health Services, and community health hospital. Dr. Tran is licensed in the use of diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical agents and is certified by the National Board of Optometry in the treatment and management of ocular disease. Dr. Tran is fluent in English and has basic knowledge of Spanish and Vietnamese. She has a strong passion for serving the community where she grew up. In her spare time, Dr. Tran loves traveling, dabbling in film photography, and playing with her family’s dog, Chopper.
